A Study On The Operative Dentistry Fee System In Dental Insurance


Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the propriety of the relative value of operative dental service in dental insurance fee system in Korea.
The author had measured the operating time for filling procedure only from out-patients.
A questionnaire about 7 items from 7653 cases for operative treatment of Dept. of Conservative Dentistry, Dental Hospital, College of Dentistry, Kyung Hee University from 10th. January to 20th. August 1994 had analyzed.
The data from questionnaires compared the relative value system of complexity-time and current dental insurance fee system in Korea, and also compared with that from other author's analysis, and discussed.
It is recommended that the current dental insurance fee in Korea should be increased up according to the results obtained from this study as follows:
1. Fee of normal treatment (Cha-1) and pulp capping(Cha-3) should be increased by 100-1000%.
2. As a need for mirror work, fee of filling on maxillary teeth needed to be rised at 10% compared with that on mandibular teeth.
3. The filling fee of complex cavities (Cha-13) must be raised up about 50% for a number of each cavity amd 40% for a number of each surface compared to that of simple(O) cavity.
4. Fee for filling with lining including use of the varnishes needed to be increased up to 110% compared with filling without lining.
5. Fillings under sub-gingival cavities proved to be rised up 40% in fee compared with fillings on occlusal cavities.
6. Fee of fillng with matrix resulted in a increase by as much as 16% compared with without matrix.
